Why Coaching?

Coaching is one of the fastest growing professions and when asked why, people will tell you because it works. It has worked in sports for hundreds of years and now people see that it works with CEO’s. CEO’s are seeing the success and want to share it with their employees. Their employees see that it works and they now want it to work with their families and friends. Why does coaching work? This is a question that I am often times asked. First of all, coaching works only if YOU are open to it and wanting change in your life.  Coaching requires a commitment to do some deep reflecting, thinking, and creating. So why does coaching work? To put it very simply, coaching helps you get from where you currently are in life to where you want to be. A good coach can help you lose weight, increase your sales, change careers, enhance your relationships, run a marathon, write a book, find more peace and joy in your life…are you getting my point? A coach can help you get ‘unstuck’, so you can address your fears, eliminate your excuses and create the life you dream of living.

Six more reasons why hiring a coach is a great idea.

  1. Sounding board

Almost everyone that I’ve ever coached ‘knows’ what he or she should be doing, they just aren’t doing it. Coaching is all about listening attentively and asking powerful, solution driven questions to assist you in discovering the answers that work best for you.

  1. Curiosity

Coaching helps you discover why you want to achieve the outcome you are seeking. So often in life, people focus on the how’s and the what’s and they lose the reason for why they even want to accomplish this goal. Coaches also believe that you have the answers within you and part of the coach’s job is help clients discover those answers.

  1. Accountability/Challenge

Too often we turn to those closest to use to seek accountability, but guess what? It doesn’t work. Those closest to us, accept our excuses, they empathize with our fears and they can keep us stuck. A coaching relationships starts with permission to hold the person accountable to themselves and their dreams. A coach can differentiate between excuses and real life issues. A coach can hold you accountable and challenge you to grow during each session.

  1. Improves relationships

Relationships often times go astray when people have different visions of what the relationship should look like. Coaching can help couples, parents, and families, create that vision together to build healthy and beautiful relationships.

  1. Increase productivity

One of the number one reasons people hire a coach is to help them increase their productivity. Increased productivity is often the result of thinking differently, challenging your comfort zone and needing someone to help you stay focused and accountable to your goal.

  1. Shifts your mindset

All aspects of coaching require the client to re-think their thinking. This area dives into the words you say to yourself inside your head to the words that come out of your mouth for the world to hear.

When looking for a coach, don’t over emphasize their job title, but rather focus on what they represent. Most coaches are self-employed, which makes them the owner and CEO of their own company. When you are the ‘boss’ you can give yourself any title you want. Focus instead on the coach’s certifications and if the coach’s philosophy is the right match for you.
