Spiritual Direction
Soul Care for people reaching for moreWHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM COACHING?
In both coaching and spiritual direction, the focus is on your life. A coach and a spiritual director both ask open-ended questions, listening for significance beyond the words you say to help you reflect on your life. Beyond that, the purpose of spiritual direction and coaching are quite different. For more information about coaching, please click on coaching services.
So, what’s Spiritual Direction?
If you are looking for a safe place to honestly explore your spiritual questions and to deepen your relationship with God, Spiritual Direction just might be for you. The purpose of Spiritual Direction is to be a listening companion and to help you notice God’s presence and activity in your life. God is the director in the three way relationship, and primary relationship is between God and the directee.
Spiritual Direction is a ministry that…
- Helps you grow in prayer
- Explore questions that you find relevant to your journey with God.
- Learn how you can discern God’s will in a given circumstance.
- Learn how to experience God in your day-to-day life.
- Help you see where God is working in your life.
How it works…
Spiritual Direction fits easily into your life and can enrich your daily relationship with God.
- Sessions are typically one hour in length scheduled once a month
- It can be done in person, over the phone or Zoom
- Our time together begins with scripture or devotion to help you shed the noise of daily life, followed by reflection and discussion.
- Occasionally, an activity may be offered for insight and/or growth.

My background and training
My walk with Jesus has been a journey with many ups and downs. Twenty years ago, my life fell apart, and I was angry at God! Here is the amazing thing, it was at that point, my lowest point, that my faith begins to grow! It’s a long story, but I’ll just say, Jesus showed up in my pain. It was through Jesus that I could release my hurt, pain, and bitterness to Him. It didn’t happen overnight, but through that process I’ve learned the gift of giving and receiving forgiveness, which actually opens your heart in ways I never dreamed possible. Through my desire to grow as a follower of Jesus, I discovered spiritual direction and felt called to learn more about this ministry.
I received my certification as a spiritual director through the School of Spiritual Direction with Sustainable Faith in 2021. The program was an intensive two year program which was life changing. I am a member of Spiritual Directors International (SDI) and the Evangelical Spiritual Directors Association (ESDA). I follow their code of ethics in my practice, especially regard to confidentiality.
Definitely a No Accidents in the Kingdom experience for me! Went in to the first session “out of curiosity” but quickly realized that curious nudge was really the Holy Spirit working! I mean, what would be the chances that I would see Carrie on a zoom call and sense a “light” around her – I even recall sending her a message in the chat box that she just glowed. I was immediately drawn to her and did not hesitate when I had the opportunity to experience a spiritual direction session. DIRECTION is exactly what I “received” – the awareness about myself and my faith partnership with God opened the doors to a whole new way of being and serving and brought me a sense of peace and joy I had no idea was even possible! I have always had a servant heart but the Jesus With Skin On opportunities have multiplied as I now see them everywhere – maybe because the Holy Spirit invited me to be intentionally looking through Carrie?! The best part of all is the ripple it has created as others are seeing, hearing and even feeling the Holy Spirit move in their lives as well as a result of our encounters. Truly a see the light, be the light transformative experience
