“You know Carrie, you will need to upgrade.” While waiting for my first cup of coffee early this morning, my husband, out of the blue, announced that I really needed to do my upgrade.  He caught me off guard, probably because I hadn’t had my first cup of coffee and my mind wandered in a different direction. Upgrade? Upgrade, what are you talking about? Initially, I was a little taken back, even perhaps, dare say, offended. He then laughed and said your iPhone Carrie; you really needed to do the IOS upgrade on your phone.  What he didn’t know, is that I had been playing with this word, “upgrade” for the past few weeks and how to use it with Love Your Life…you know, how to upgrade your life from LIKING it to LOVING it!  So of course, when he told me that I needed an upgrade, my mind didn’t initially go to my iPhone!  So, here is the analogy that I came up with, and it made me laugh.  Why wasn’t I doing the upgrade?  I had that consistent reminder on my phone to complete this upgrade and I just simply ignored it.  Rumor had it, that it could make my phone more efficient, but I was comfortable.  Every time I would think of doing the upgrade, my mind would race back to previous times when upgrades were suggested.  On my last phone, I had to delete all my music, most of my apps and download my pictures just so that I could have room for to do the upgrade.  That was a time consuming project, so when my old iPhone said that it was time to upgrade my IOS, I simply ignored it, for about a year!  I decided I needed to trade in my old phone before I wanted to go through something like that again!  My first haunting memories of upgrades came when I had my Blackberry…can you believe that was only three or four years ago.  I did my update on that phone and it literally killed my phone which is when I became an iPhone lover.  The switch was hard. I didn’t understand apps and I thought, who needed those dumb apps. I decided to take the leap, and I upgraded. I got out of my comfort zone and went with the new technolog. Sure, the first couple of weeks were frustrating, but once you catch on to the upgrades, life can be great. This month, I made another technology change! I have been a Windows XP user, for about the last five years. The old laptop needed replaced and I am now trying to figure out the new Windows  I will admit, technology is not always my gift, but I am breathing through each new challenge, as I understand in the long run, it is to my benefit to learn this new technology.  Another bonus is that I don’t have to see the pop-ups every hour reminding me that Windows XP is no longer being supported! The moral of this blog is that a lot of us can get stuck in our old ways of thinking. If we would simply be more courageous and be willing to step out of our comfort zone, and be open to learning something new, our life could certainly become an upgrade! Are you ready?
