I love the 4th of July in America, it is a day to celebrate our independence as a country and to enjoy a day off from the busyness of our lives. We all love a day off, a long weekend, extra time with family and friends, right? But how many of you are dreading the return to the office or your everyday routines? How many of you feel as if you are just going through the motions of life instead of enjoying life? Here’s the good news, life is made up of choices. Yes, choices, and you can decide to stay stuck or you can decide to change. Let’s be honest, just talking about change can get you thinking, but if you stay in the thinking mode, it gets you nowhere. What I am asking you to do today is to commit yourself to take action!  Take action that will help you start creating the life you truly desire to live. The choice is yours, to change or not to change. If you decided that you couldn’t decide, then you made the choice to stay stuck.  I understand, change can be scary, but you can use that fear to motivate you to start creating the life you dream of living.

To create more freedom in your life, you must have more self-awareness of where you are in life and where you want to be. More awareness of how and when you feel loved. More awareness of your mental and physical health. More awareness of who and what brings you a deep sense of happiness and joy. More awareness of your finances and where your money goes.  More awareness of what your inner critic is saying to you and that you can tune your inner critic out. Are you getting the point?  In order to create more freedom for yourself, you must first start by having a deep sense of understanding of who your really are!

If you are still reading this blog, perhaps it means that you are ready for change. Before you can change and start creating more freedom in your life, you must first determine what you want your life to look like after the change. Some people are looking for a life overhaul, while others are looking for better control of their time, finances, or well-being. While others might be looking for deeper and more meaningful relationships in their lives. In my coaching practice, many of my clients are given this fun ‘Life Work’ assignment to start dreaming and creating the change that they are desiring. The activity starts with your asking yourself this question, “What do I want my life to look like in the next 20+ years?”

  • Are you where you want to be in your career or are you looking for changes? If you are looking for changes, what would be your ideal career?  What would it take for you to get that career?
  • What relationships would you like to see enhanced? What can you do to start creating that change?
  • Are you satisfied with your health? Do you need to make changes? What things would need to change now in order for your health to improve?
  • Do you have enough fun and creativity in your life or would you like to make time for more enjoyment?
  • Are your finances where you would like them to be or do you need to make changes?
  • Continue to ask yourself questions about your life and where you would like to see yourself in the next 20+ years.  Most importantly, have fun with this activity and don’t forgot to dream big.

In order to create it, you must first know what you want the master piece to look like at the end! Now that you have created the vision, the next step is action. It’s important to not overwhelm yourself and to remember that lasting change takes time. Commit to yourself to pick 1-3 things that are on your list to begin the process.  Hire a coach, find an accountability partner, read books on the subject, commit to do whatever it takes to find the success that you are going after.

Remember, if you change nothing, nothing will change. Are YOU ready for real change in your life?
